10/16/99: Splendorous BeautyThis intercept takes me about 55 miles NE of my home, to the Greenville, TX area. Streets of towering cumulus blossom upwards into thunderheads that drop expanding mists of rain. A wondrous sky of rainbows, leaping lightning bolts, and rain curtains turning fiery pinks, orange, silvery and blue with sunset colors, lies before me. Undulating waves of migrating geese flying south superimpose upon this stunning background. Before my evening is finished, I intercept a second storm that brings me continuous strobes of dazzling lightning bolts close to my car, turning night into day. Blinding rains smash against my windshield with tremendous din, mixing with strong gusts of wind and rattles of thunder that vibrate the car roof. A third intercept yields pyrotechnic displays of lightning darting across sky along with heavy rain. Meantime, utterly no rain fell in my neighborhood. What sweet victory! |
